I was in Washington DC for some Dojo training this past week and on Friday I was able to take a sight seeing excursion (click the capitol for the flickr set). It was cool to go back to DC. I went when I was 14 but all I remember from that trip is taking a picture on a giant bust of Einstein’s head and getting in trouble for having my hand inside of his nose. This time around I was much more observant.
I would say that the Lincoln Memorial was my favorite.
Lincoln looks like some kind of king sitting in that big ass chair. He also has a fantastic view of everyones favorite Phalic symbol and the rest of the Mall.
I was somewhat disappointed with the Smithsonian museums this time around. We went into the Natural history and Air and Space. The Air and Space was the most interesting of the two but neither blew me away. The only good thing that the Natural History Museum offered was a pretty cool mammal exhibit, but even it seemed kind of small. The Smithsonians just didnt seem as big as I remembered. On top of that their snack shop only offered budwiser, a travesty for sure.
By the way, if you are ever in DC and need a good place to eat, JR and I concur that the The Waffle Shop is a fantastic breakfast spot (its 2 doors down from the Fords Theatre, where Lincoln was shot).
